When Hongyun Wang (HKUST Part-Time Bi-Weekly Intake 2025), an aviation professional currently with Airbus, decided to pursue an MBA, he had a clear mission — to strengthen his management foundation and prepare for a leadership role that would shape the future of the aviation industry.
From Strategy Rooms to Business Classrooms
Before joining the MBA, Hongyun served as an Executive Assistant to the Vice President of Airbus China. The role gave him front-row access to how senior leaders develop corporate strategies, oversee operations, and make critical financial decisions. To expand his expertise, he later moved into marketing, gaining hands-on experience in market intelligence, customer insights, and product strategy.
I realized that to be a well-rounded leader, I needed to understand business from every angle — that’s what pushed me toward the MBA.
Why HKUST Fit the Flight Plan
When choosing where to study, Hongyun sought a program that blended technology, business, and international perspectives — all essential to the aviation world. HKUST’s strong connections to Asia’s innovation ecosystem and its cross-cultural community made it stand out.
I’ve always been interested in both tech and business, and HKUST offers the perfect balance of the two.
A Community That Elevates
For Hongyun, the HKUST MBA experience has been both intellectually stimulating and immediately applicable. Courses such as Managerial Microeconomics — particularly topics in pricing strategy — have sharpened his decision-making and provided tools he applies directly at Airbus.
I learn the methodologies in class, and I apply them in my daily work and life.
Equally impactful has been the community he’s found beyond the classroom. What surprised him most is the depth of collaboration and knowledge exchange among classmates from diverse industries. “Many think an MBA is just for networking, but at HKUST, it’s a real learning experience shared with excellent classmates,” he says, emphasizing how the program fosters genuine connection and collective growth.
Building a Global Perspective
Working across China and Europe, Hongyun values the cultural diversity and global exposure that define HKUST’s MBA learning environment. These experiences, he believes, are equipping him with the mindset and confidence to lead international projects in the future.
If I want to know more about any industry, my classmates or professors are always ready to help — it’s a community that truly supports your growth.
