At 28, Kevin Chan (HKUST Part-Time Weekly MBA Intake 2025) already manages e-commerce and franchised auto maintenance networks within his family’s automotive business. After years of hands-on operations, he recognized the need for broader strategic tools to address rapid industry changes—digital shifts, evolving consumer needs, and new mobility models. An MBA became the logical step to gain structured knowledge and fresh perspectives for sustainable growth.

Navigating Change in a Fast-Moving Industry

“My day-to-day responsibilities have shown me how quickly the automotive industry is changing – digitalization, shifting consumer expectations, and the rise of mobility solutions,” Kevin explains. “Pursuing an MBA at this stage is not just about academic advancement; it’s about gaining fresh perspectives and strategic thinking to future-proof our operations.”

HKUST stood out for its strong reputation in Asia and its practical curriculum tailored to entrepreneurs. “The global faculty and strong industry ties were crucial factors, as I wanted a program that balances international viewpoints with local relevance.” The HKUST MBA offers exactly what excites Kevin – a world-class education in the heart of Asia and a network deeply connected to the region’s business landscape.

Building Skills for the Next Chapter

Kevin sees the MBA as a catalyst for scaling his business and exploring new opportunities. The program is designed to strengthen leadership, financial acumen, and strategic decision-making – skills Kevin sees as essential for scaling his business and exploring new opportunities. “I’m learning best practices I can apply immediately and expanding my network with peers and mentors whose support and feedback help me make smarter business decisions,” he says.

A Network That Opens Doors

Kevin emphasizes the value of the HKUST MBA community. “My classmates come from diverse backgrounds – consulting, technology, finance – which means I benefit from a wide range of experiences in every discussion.” he notes. Faculty members are approachable and invested in students’ growth, often providing industry insights tailored to individual sectors.

Strong Alumni community have also played a vital role in Kevin’s MBA journey. “Several have offered guidance on challenges unique to family-run businesses and connected me to opportunities outside my immediate network. Whether it’s sharing operational best practices or encouraging innovative ideas, the support system here is both generous and practical.”

Charting the Road Ahead

The HKUST MBA stands out for its ability to combine global perspectives with practical insights tailored to Asia’s dynamic business environment. For Kevin, this means more than academic learning – it’s access to a curriculum designed for real-world application, a diverse network that sparks new ideas, and faculty who bring industry expertise to every discussion. These strengths are equipping him with the confidence and strategic vision to scale his business and lead with agility in an industry that never stands still.
