Words from Our Associate Dean

As associate dean, I get energized by working with our students. And there are two moments that I really enjoy—the first is the excitement of talking with a student about their aspirations and what they can do to get there.  The second is reconnecting with a student 5 or 10 years after graduation, and hearing about what they’ve accomplished and how they’ve grown.

I’m Stephen Shih, the Associate Dean for HKUST MBA programs.

Here at HKUST Business School, We cherish entrepreneurial and innovative thinking. Change is a requirement for progress, so we actively cultivate a community characterized by the traits of empathy, risk-taking, creativity, resilience and confidence.

What are the key takeaways for MBA students?

You will gain new knowledge and have a broader understanding of different viewpoints – you’ll develop empathy for customers and employees, more understanding of how to work with shareholders, stakeholders and society, and the ability to respect the past while also leading change.

You will expand your personal connections – with executives from different industries and functions, with people from different cultures and life experiences. People that you wouldn’t meet in your normal day-to-day work, and new people that you may one day call a friend.

You will gain confidence – you’ll have a deeper understanding of yourself, a higher sense of what you can accomplish in the future, and the practical skills to get there.

Can you share the memorable moment of being Associate Dean?
